EMP HACKFEST

EmP Hackfest Hackathon Founder and Event Chair

I first participated in a hackathon in 10th grade. Although the theme was very broad, being disaster relief, I was awed by the variety of problems and solutions addressed. Some teams created websites to inform what actions need to be taken when disasters occur, whereas others created gadgets that help rescue cars after hurricanes. Inspired by the creativity and innovation, I aimed to host my own hackathons. Knowing that the main deterrence of people joining hackathons were the lack of previous knowledge, I invited student and adult speakers to host programming workshops, so participants don't need any prior knowledge. Additionally, adults guided the newer teams to ensure everyone was on the right track and could produce a project.
